The Basilica of Saint Sernin is located in Toulouse, France. It's construction took place between 1080 and 1120. After the gift of many relics to the church by Charlemagne, it became an important stop on pilgrimage routes and the final destinations of some pilgrimages itself. The building was built to support the vast number of those pilgrims and was constructed on a different basilica plan than most churches of its time, primarily to accommodate the flow and number of pilgrims they were expecting. It has an ambulatory that grants viewing access to the radiating chapels that contain relics. It is in the shape of cruciform, has an additional bell tower, and vaulted ceilings.
