All those objects covering Hannah Wilke's (the artist) body are vulvas shaped out of chewing gum. The various poses she takes are pin-up in nature, but lack the usual connotation because of the chewing gum adornments. It's a mix of common sexual images/poses with something somewhat grotesque that many have claimed to resemble scarring or mutations. It calls attention to the perception of women through the medium of her body and the representation of something strictly female.
