Interior of S. Constanza

Built under Constantine, the church was originally a mausoleum. Constantine's two sisters are buried here. The central chamber is surrounded by twelve pairs of columns, possibly representing the apostles. The ambulatory ceiling is covered with mosaics that, once again, blend the Christian and the pagan as they show stories from each belief system.
