Borobudur

This temple is a shrine to Buddha and a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site. Six square platforms are stacked atop each other with three circular platforms completing the stacks on the very top. Relief sculpture panels and statues of Buddha abound. The statues of Buddha themselves number over five hundred. The structure itself is to represent Buddhist cosmology and the journey to enlightenment. So, when pilgrims visit this site, they walk from the first level around and around each level until they reach the top.
