Supermarket Shopper, Hanson

Duane Hanson uses his work to comment on social events. The sculptures he creates are often confused with real life models due to their exceptionally life-like appearances. This super market shopper is a commentary on the average American (as are many of his pieces). Excessiveness in all areas prevails, even in her physical form. Faced with this uncommonly obese sculpture (as opposed to the more common perfect Greek and Roman pieces), this piece causes us to become newly aware of a form that we most likely see everyday.
