Rabbit for Dinner, Chia

The intensity of the colors within Sandro Chia's abstract work are the first to grab you. The artist has created a landscape through color, showing holes, dips, and rising land through delineating blocks of color. The action taking place is clear and gives the impression of an early human action, and yet he is in shorts and a t-shirt. The brilliant thing within this picture is its testament to the unifying elements of a human existence. The way in which he has created the backdrop for this hunt does not allow us to place it specifically in a certain time or place. The smaller details at the bottom of this painting seem to echo tribal art, found on cave walls, and thus it links the present and the ancient past, showing that the need has not changed, that on some level we are still the same humans.
