Field Rotation, Mary Miss

The Field Rotation is another work that incorporates the landscape around it and also the history of the area. Mary Miss dug the earth, creating a wood lined structure resembling the fortification plan of 18th century European military forts. It combines aspects of America's indigenous people as well. The ladders used to climb in and out of it recall the cliff dwelling Pueblo Indians. In the center, a raised mound echos burial and ceremonial mounds while motes surrounding the central wooden design once again speak to connections to older European fortifications.
