Christ as Pantocrator

The term Pantocrator or Pantokrator is a term applied to Jesus meaning Almighty One or Ruler of All. The term is only found twice in the Bible: once by St. Paul in Second Corinthians and once by the author of the Book of Revelation. The term transformed into a physical embodiment of a mild, accessible Christ, but one who was stern in his judgment of the human race. It also takes on the connotation of teacher, hence the book he holds in numerous representations. His right hand is usually raised in blessing or a sign associated with teaching. His expression is minimal but not offensive or mad, and his hair is always centrally parted and surrounded by a halo.
